A funeral marks the end of a person's life here on earth. Family and friends come together to express grief, give thanks for the life lived and commend the person into God's keeping. As Christians we believe that there is hope in death as in life, and that there is new life in Jesus after death. This faith is expressed through the hymns and prayers of the funeral service.

If you are visiting these pages after suffering a bereavement, we would like to offer our condolences.

You might find the following website helpful www.churchofengland.org/life-events/funerals

More likely you may have already been in touch with a funeral director to undertake the arrangements for you.  The contact details of our local firms are here.

Once a time and date for the funeral service is made, the minister who will be taking the service will be in touch with you and will then discuss the content of the service with you in more detail.

A prayer

Heavenly Father,
you have not made us for darkness and death,
but for life with you for ever.

Without you we have nothing to hope for;
with you we have nothing to fear.

Speak to us now your words of eternal life.
Lift us from anxiety and guilt to the light and peace of your presence, and set the glory of your love before us;through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
